Searching the Carmarthenshire Historian
What you need to know about searching
The search mechanism does not support wild cards. Use only whole words. Partial words will not return results. For example, if you are looking for references containing the word
Carmarthen, type in
Carmarthen not
Carm.
The search is
not case-sensitive.
Carmarthen will return the same results as
carmarthen.
You can search for phrases. Surround the phrase in double quotes:
"Carmarthen past" will find documents with exactly those two words, and in that order. Don't use quotes if you want to match documents with one or more words:
Carmarthen past, will find documents with the word
Carmarthen; documents with the word
past; and documents containing both
Carmarthen and
past.
The historian is orgianised into two formats: PDF and web page. After a search, you are urged to click on web page results rather than pdf file results. The pdf files are large, usually in the 7-8MB (Mega-Byte) range. If you need to download one of these files (see
conversion for a reason) make sure you have one (or both) of the following:
- Plenty of bandwidth (High speed internet, cable/DSL)
- Patience
I've noticed that the search will not find numbers. For example, if you're trying to find the date
1555, you're out of luck. And by the way
1555 is a date that is present in at least one of the volumes. If you
do need to search for a number (date/year) then you can use the
other search - it can be found
here. [Note: it won't search PDF files].
Anyway, enough talk, have a go. Type a word into the following box and hit return.
